True pioneers in the field of cold plasma: with a highly qualified and motivated team of scientists, engineers and experts, we have successfully advanced the research and development of commercial applications of this fascinating technology - in companies, public institutions and organizations as well as in private households around the world.

What is cold plasma? It is more specifically called "Cold Atmospheric Plasma" and is a partially ionized gas that has been proven to be very effective in inactivating all types of microorganisms, including bacteria, viruses, fungi and spores.

About us

We are a global leader in the research and development of cold plasma solutions. terraplasma was founded in 2011 as a spin-off of the Max Planck Institute to commercialize research results on cold plasma from over three decades. 

Over the last ten years, we have developed and launched five products in the areas of skin care and wound treatment, disinfection and sterilization, and odor and allergen elimination from prototype to commercial end device and brought it to market- and have sold a total of more than 35,000 products with our partners that contain our patented cold plasma technology.

Technology

How is cold plasma created or how is it produced? Unlike hot plasma - such as the sun, lightning or auroras - cold plasma operates at normal room temperature, raising the question of how this is possible when plasma is the hottest known state of substance.

Cold plasma is created when just enough energy is added to a gas (e.g. normal room air) so that only a few of its particles are ionized, in contrast to the disorder and thermal activity of hot plasmas, where all particles are ionized.

This cold plasma particle mixture - we call it a “plasma cocktail” - is very active against microorganisms, among other things, and can therefore be used in water treatment, the food industry, but also in medicine and cosmetics.

Phlas

The plasma care from terraplasma medical GmbH is the first truly mobile medical device for wound treatment using cold plasma. As an approved Class IIa medical device, it can be used by outpatient wound specialists, but also in clinical and office settings.
